Making Courtyard model
After mixing the clay to the dark grey colour tone, I spread out the clay covering my exisiting card model, blending it into the edges to create the sharp steps upward. After getting the clay laid, I printed a template of the tile pattern I created to scale of the model and sliced out the tiles. The tile sizing was made with thought – Not too small too be chaotic and too busy but large enough to practical, preventing the tile from splitting if the ground moves or gets too hot. The tile is a moment which the visiter will notice through curiosity, the tile continues under the risen pool.

After tramping through the neighbourhood for Lichen Moss, I collected seven trees worth in order to create realistic trees. After scaling up my brunches to 1:75 so that the Pohutakawa branches I found laying on the ground were a realistic scale. The Pohutakawa branches which I found had to have a fork like end to appear as if they were a real like tree which branches spread out nearer the top.
The tree plant boxes were scaled using a scaled ruler, the plant boxes were created using wood to represent the true designed plant box. Simplistic yet forming a connection between the totara burial fence and the wintergarden. The beauty colour of the wood contrasts with the tile, a soft moment with the historic flooring. Real dirt was used to fill the plant boxes, removing all items from the soil which would look unrealistic due to scale e.g stones and seeds.

After contemplating how to create a waterproof risen pool which wont be too thick yet will contain the water to create the effect I desired, I realised that the water would either leak through or the lining would appear too bulky. I decided the appearance of reflectiveness and ripples that I desired would come nicely from GladWrap wrapped around a piece of card measured to the correct scale.

Lighting was added to my model to represent how the design would appear and effectively be used. The light affect on the stairs is subtle, draws the visitor towards the reflective pool yet is still providing light for safety. The pool appears to be floating, ghost/angel like. This moment comes across spiritually, diving deeper into the visitor for a more emotional reflection.
